Selling

You will be able to list your vehicle on Car Trust website and three options will appear near your asking price on your listing; Purchase, Make an offer, Arrange a viewing/test drive and buyers will be able to choose any of these options.  Next to the asking price three estimated prices of the vehicle will also be present, i.e. Trade-in price, Part exchange price, private sale price.

If you have advertised your vehicle for sale on any other website, you will be able to list your vehicle on Car Trust website. Your listing will remain on the website for up to 6 months.

In your listing clearly describe the vehicle; specify the vehicle’s condition accurately, describe any flaws and include lots of pictures.

  • Specify vehicle condition accurately such as Used or New. Stating the condition of your vehicle helps set buyer expectations and is required. Buyers can also sort their searches using Vehicle Specifics, making them a powerful tool to help ensure your vehicle is seen by the buyers who are interested in your vehicles.
  • Describe any flaws like scratches, dings, functional problems, missing parts or smells (cigarette or pet odours, for example).
  • Include multiple pictures of the vehicle in your listings, from multiple angles—especially if there are flaws. You get 30 FREE pictures per listing.

Listing Conditions

When listing a vehicle, you agree to comply with rules for listing and selling practice policy and that:

  • You are responsible for the accuracy and content of the listing and vehicle offered.
  • Your listing may not be immediately searchable by keyword or category for several hours (or up to 24 hours in some circumstances). Car Trust can't guarantee exact listing durations.
  • We strive to create a marketplace where buyers find what they are looking for. Therefore, the appearance or placement of listings in search and browse results will depend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to:
    • buyer's location, search query, browsing site, and history;
    • vehicle's location, listing format, price, service history, and relevance to the user query;
    • number of listings matching the buyer's query.

Accordingly, to drive a positive user experience, a listing may not appear in some search and browse results regardless of the sort order chosen by the buyer.

Responding to Buyer’s questions

Provide detailed information in your listing to help buyers get the answers they need. Buyers often have questions before, during and after a sale. By providing detailed information in your listing and responding right away to any questions buyers send you directly, you can help buyers get the answers they need.

Buying

When buying a vehicle you will be able to use any of the three options appearing near the asking price of a vehicle, i.e. Purchase, Make an offer, Arrange a viewing/test drive and agree a price with the seller.

Buying conditions

When buying a vehicle, you agree to the rules for buyers and that:

  • You are responsible for reading the full vehicle listing before making a bid or commitment to buy.
  • You enter into a legally binding contract to buy a vehicle when you commit to buy a vehicle or if you have the winning bid (or your bid is otherwise accepted).
  • A bid or offer initiates a non-binding transaction representing a buyer's serious expression of interest in buying the seller's vehicle and does not create a formal contract between the buyer and the seller.
  • We do not transfer legal ownership of vehicles from the seller to the buyer.

Buying behaviours we don't allow

Not paying for vehicles

If you've clicked “Purchase” button or made a bid which is subsequently accepted by the seller, you've committed to purchasing that vehicle and will be required to pay. If you don't pay for it, even if you've changed your mind, you're violating Car Trust Terms of Use Agreement, which may result in account restriction or suspension.

Making unreasonable demands

When you buy a vehicle, you're accepting the seller's terms as set out in their listing, provided they comply with our listing policies. You're entitled to expect that the seller will do what they've said. We know there are sometimes exceptional circumstances, and we allow reasonable and limited requests. However, the seller is not obligated to fulfil requests outside of their terms.

Facilitation of sale of the vehicles

Once the seller and the buyer have agreed a purchase price, the buyer will have to BACS transfer the full amount of the agree price to the Car Trust’s ‘Client Holding Account’, details of which will be provided. Once we have received the conformation of the money in ‘Client Holding Account’, we shall clear any outstanding finance on the vehicle on the behalf of the seller. The buyer and seller will be asked by us to arrange a vehicle handover time and venue. Both the buyer and seller will receive a unique code for the transaction via text which they will have to confirm to each other to avoid any mistake or fraud.

Both the buyer and the seller will also receive a receipt for the sale of the vehicle containing a checklist including but not limited to confirmation of ID check (Passport/driving license), ownership of the vehicle (name of the owner matches the ID documents), conditions of the vehicle, V5, Insurance doc, Road Tax confirmation, MOT, Service history, Vin Number, mileage. Both parties will have to sign the receipts and keep for their respective records at the time of vehicle handover. The Car Trust fee will be deducted after completion of the sale (calculated as 1.5% of the sale price). The seller will be asked to load a copy of the receipt as a proof of completion of the sale on Car Trust website prior to remaining amount transferred to his/her account.

Disputes between the buyer and the seller

We require all users to register prior to be able to use Car Trust services. Identity and credit status of all users is checked, as well as full HPI of the vehicles is checked. These checks are specifically incorporated to minimise the risk of any fraudulent activities, falsification or misrepresentation of the vehicles advertised and provide safe and secure services to all our users.

Sellers are strongly encouraged to provide detailed accurate information about the vehicle, particularly about any flaws, imperfections or damages and plenty of pictures to help potential buyers make informed decision whether to make a purchase or not.

Buyers are also strongly encouraged to arrange a viewing/test drive the vehicle to make sure the condition and performance of the vehicle is fully matched with the advertisement. Both buyers and sellers are supplied receipt of the sales including a checklist including but not limited to confirmation of ID check (Passport/driving license), ownership of the vehicle (name of the owner matches the ID documents), conditions of the vehicle, V5, Insurance doc, Road Tax confirmation, MOT, Service history, Vin Number, mileage which both parties have to sign to confirm that they are happy with transaction.

It is the buyer’s responsibility to check the vehicle thoroughly during the viewing/test drive and at the time of vehicle handover, and make sure they are satisfied with all items on the checklist prior to signing it.

Despite this if a dispute arises between the buyer and the seller after the completion of the transaction and handover of the vehicle, both parties will be expected to co-operate in resolving the dispute. Car Trust will be happy to provide assistance to resolve the issue, however, by accepting this Term of Use Agreement you agree to release Car Trust (and our affiliates and subsidiaries, and our and their respective officers, directors, employees and agents) from claims, demands and damages (actual and consequential) of every kind and nature, known and unknown, arising out of or in any way connected with such disputes. In entering into this release you expressly waive any protections (whether statutory or otherwise) that would otherwise limit the coverage of this release to include only those claims which you may know or suspect to exist in your favour at the time of agreeing to this release.

Other terms for dispute

  • We may provide buyers and sellers with access to each other's names, user IDs, contact information, and other information relating to a dispute.
  • When a buyer and seller don't speak the same language, we may assist with communication until a case is resolved.

If you suspect fraud, report it

If you think, both as a buyer or seller, any fraudulent activities are being carried out during the sale of a vehicle, immediately report your concerns to Car Trust.

You can also contact law enforcement in your area, as well as the buyer's area. We'll cooperate with any investigation.

What are cookies?

Cookies are tiny text files stored on your computer when you visit certain web pages. At Car Trust we use cookies to keep track of the options you have selected on the website and to remember you when you return to our site.

To get the best Car Trust experience, you need to have cookies enabled. If you don't wish to enable cookies, you will still be able to use the site but you may not be able to use some of the essential features we offer such as placing an advert so we recommend you keep them enabled.

Cookies don't harm your computer. Like other online companies, we use cookies to provide you with more relevant and useful information. We don't store personally identifiable information such as credit card details in cookies we create, but we do use information gathered from cookies to help improve your experience of the site.

If your computer is configured to accept cookies we will be able to provide time saving functionality such as:

  • The ability to pre-fill the search form with your postcode, thus preventing the need to input it each time you want to perform a search.
  • The ability to login to your Car Trust account and place adverts on the site.

However, if you'd prefer to restrict, block or delete cookies from Car Trust.co.uk, or any other website, you can use your browser to do this. Each browser is different, so check the 'Help' menu of your particular browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences.

For further information on cookies or for details on how to delete them or refuse their installation on your computer, please visit http://www.aboutcookies.org/

Cookies used on the website

Here is a list of how we use cookies on the website:

Google analytics

We use Google Analytics to carry out statistical analysis of page use, page interactions and paths through the Website to evaluate and develop our Website. This is known as 'digital analytics'. We may also record certain information that customers provide during a Website purchase or other process.

This information allows us to understand individual behaviours and needs more accurately. For more information on how Google uses the data collected via this service, see here: http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/

To opt out of being tracked via Google Analytics, you can also use Google's opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout

Doubleclick

We are linking the anonymous cookie data collected in Google Analytics with data collected via the anonymous Google Doubleclick cookie, utilising a feature called 'advertising features.'

In practice, this means that when you visit our website(s) we will collect the value of the Doubleclick advertising cookie (if one exists on your browser) within Google Analytics.

This feature allows us to link information collected in Google Analytics with Google's Display network, to enable re-marketing campaigns on this network, as well as enabling us to collect basic (anonymous) demographic information about our website users.

You can opt out of Doubleclick campaigns here - http://google.com/settings/ads

Scorecardresearch.com

We use ScorecardResearch to help with the collection of Internet web browsing data, in creating reports on Internet behaviour and trends such as new versus repeat visitors to the website. The ScorecardResearch tagging is not used to identify the user visiting a page, although data such as a timestamp, the URL, and the title of the web page may be collected.

If you wish to find out more about the supplier's use of cookies, please refer to their privacy policy at http://www.scorecardresearch.com/privacy.aspx

ForeSee

We use third party companies to provide survey functionality to our users on our site. The cookies set by these companies allow us to track your interactions with the website for the purpose of associating your journey around our site with the information you provide when we ask you to complete a survey. We also use cookies to ensure that once you've completed the survey, we don't ask you to complete it again.

Adobe AudienceManager

Adobe AudienceManager allows us to collect information regarding user activities and interactions with the Website such as the pages viewed and the searches conducted. The data collected help us to provide you with more relevant products, content and marketing messages on the Website and advertising on third party sites.

Adobe AudienceManager is not designed to collect personally identifiable nor sensitive data, and any information collected cannot be used to personally identify you.

First party cookies

Whenever you are not logged in, we use a non-personally identifiable cookie to understand the number of unique visitors who look at the adverts on the site.

Used and new vehicle search - Cookies: CompareTray (session), searches, SearchData, postcode, GeoLocation

Internal tracking

We like to understand the response that we are getting to our used car advertisers on the site, and so we use a cookie to store some information about the search you have performed.

Quick quote insurance

In order to provide you with quick quote insurance prices for each advert as you search around the used cars section of our site, we need to store your age and the number of no claims years’ information that you provided to us when you enabled this option.

In order to gather feedback from our customers about the site's products & features you will be invited to provide your feedback on occasion by filling in a short survey. Providing feedback to us will enable the Car Trust team to act on this feedback and improve services and features.
